On April 18th, TEDxMU will be closed to in-person guests due to COVID-19 and campus closures but will be live-streamed so everyone can share in this experience and hear the speakers’ ideas worth spreading! More details will be announced later.
Right now, a narrow form of Artificial Intelligence called Machine Learning is being added into software used by Universities and Colleges for student admissions, determining financial aid, grading, and placing students in specific programs. These systems are designed to achieve institutional goals, not student goals. It is time to reimagine what a world be like with AI that was student-centric instead of institution-centric. Student-centric AI would help students choose the institution where they can be the most successful, match their learning styles with institutions and professors who would serve them best, and empower students to take control of their educational experience.
